Five Cygnets Hatched

Early this afternoon the swans that have nested on the island started hatching their brood. Five fluffy and very cute new arrivals. We found out recently that the new pair nesting on the island were last years breeding pair from Dunsapie Loch. Neither are related to Bonnie.

What happens over the next few days and weeks is going to be very interesting as two nests in one small territory is very unusual.

Bonnie is doing fine … her youngster from last year left the pond last weekend after being continually hassled by the ‘island’ male and according to Rosie and Doris (who are keeping a close eye on Bonnie and making sure she is well fed with nutritious food) life has been a little quieter for her since the youngster left.
